Poor food eating habits of kids

I have seen many small kids having poor food interests. These little masters want to have junk food or chips etc but a big noooooooooooooo to food. Some parents just don’t care. They give a bottle of milk 4-5 times a day to kid and always complain what to do if he does not want to have food. But only saying this does not end our responsibility.

Kids are of naughty nature. But they have to be handled with care. Our thinking that “every child grows big whatever he/ she eats “ and “he will himself start eating with growing age” is wrong. It does not make them active and their bones remain weak. When their tummy is not full, they often cry without any purpose and don’t have nice sleep.


So the food eating habits should be developed in child by taking extra pain.


Here are some methods to prepare their food which I use:


1. Mix chapati in mixer with some milk and sugar. This becomes like a paste and child eats very quickly. Similarly, chapati can also be mixed with pulses and other vegetables.


2. Make daliya as the child is usually fond of it. Otherwise, Daliya khichdi can be made.


3. Suji kheer can also be given


4. Mash banana and add some salt. Give it to child.






They eat when we get them engaged in talks or games. Give them blocks to play and feed them by spoon. it takes some time but result is better.


Where should he sit:


Let him sit at a place where he enjoys the most. When the child is in happy mood, he eats food quickly. Some ideas are:


1. Sitting before fish aquarium


2. Sitting on cycle or on the outside wall of the house watching pigeons or cows


3. Sitting before the computer and showing him rhymes or cartoons


So lots of efforts are to be made to make child healthy and active.


Always try to maintain the schedule even if the guests are coming. Get his tummy filled before arrival so that he plays before them also with disturbing you. Also try to go to the parties after feeding them properly because they will not eat in parties except cold drinks and ice-cream. Right type of minerals, carbohydrates and vitamins are very much necessary in baby’s meal.
